CHICHEN ITZA EXPLORER

Chichen Itzá Explorer/Private

From $ 110.00 Usd/5-8 Persons

Chichen Itza is the best example of the migratory movements that occurred in Mesoamerica towards the Early Postclassic period, since it brings together material cultural features from both the Maya area and central Mexico, particularly of Toltec affiliation. In addition, Chichen Itza was the capital of a large territory in the Yucatan peninsula, headed by the Mayapan league, from 987 until 1200 AD.  The Chichen Itza archaeological zone is famous worldwide for the play of light and shadow that occurs at each equinox on the steps of the pyramidal base known as El castillo. In this one, the sun, as it rises above the horizon, illuminates the west side of the basement, creating triangles of light and shadow that seem to descend to the serpent’s head in the direction of the sidewalk.

This event, achieved from the correct orientation and inclination of the basement plans, manifests the great level of astronomical and architectural knowledge that the Mayans possessed, and which has given rise to being one of the most studied cultures and regions around these issues.
