Take a step back in time at the ancient city of Monte Alban, Capital of the Zapotecs,  on the outskirts of Oaxaca City.

Our First activity will be a Guided Tour at Monte Alban, meaning ‘White Mountain,’ located on a vast mountaintop expanse with spectacular 360-degree views of Oaxaca Valley. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Oaxaca City, this designation makes Monte Alban The archaeological site to visit in Oaxaca. The pre-Columbian archaeological site of Monte Alban is considered the most magnificent of the region’s ancient ruins.

Monte Alban sits upon terraces carved out of a mountain, about 1,300 ft (400 m) above the valley floor. There are massive temples in the Gran Plaza, a large ball court, tunnels connecting buildings, an observatory, tombs filled with treasures, and unique stone carvings known as “Los Danzantes”. It’s one of the largest and most important archeological sites in all of Mexico. Explore this complex filled with pyramids, ceremonial rock carvings, a huge ball court and 170 excavated tombs and many other structures to explore.

After visiting Monte Alban Ruins we will travel back to Oaxaca City Center for our Second Activity, a Walking City Tour .

Explore the Zocalo (city square) and downtown on foot, and visit the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán and the Oaxaca Regional Museum located in its former convent.
